CAN A DIESEL 911 BE FAR AWAY? Obviously, a diesel Cayenne was inevitable- it's an SUV after all. But now Porsche has crossed the line and built a diesel Panamera. A diesel, y'know, car. Next, a diesel sports car? Well there's one practical reason why not. Porsche's sports cars fit only one kind of engine - the flat sort. Porsche doesn't make diesel engines, itjust purloins them from elsewhere in the VW Group. And there are no horizontally opposed diesels in the Group. Or indeed anywhere else on Planet Automobile other than Subaru. (Now there's a thought...)But the Panamera Diesel demonstrates another reason why there should be no diesel 911. It's too dull an engine.
