Fifty years of Wild Weasel operations have been marked with special artwork on 55th Fighter Squadron 'Fighting 55th' Lockheed Martin F-16CM Fighting Falcon 92-3920. The Wild Weasel concept originated in the Vietnam War and is used as a code name for any USAF aircraft undertaking a mission using radar- seeking missiles intended to destroy enemy radars and surface-to air missiles (SAMs). The first such mission took place on December 22, 1965, when Captain Al Lamb, flying an F-100F Super Sabre, successfully led an attack on a site near Hanoi to destroy SAMs that the North Vietnamese had recently acquired from the Soviet Union.
