On October 21, 2002, the 50th Anniversary of the association between the Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB) and the Nondestructive Testing (NDT) community was celebrated at the semi-annual meeting of the CGSB Committee on Non-destructive Testing and Certification of Personnel, in Toronto, Ontario. To mark the occasion, Mr. Bill Cunningham, the Director of the Canadian General Standards Board, presented plaques to each of the member organizations and certificates of appreciation to the individual members representing these organizations. The CGSB became involved with NDT in 1952, when a subcommittee of the Committee on Specifications for NDT began developing technical standards for magnetic particle inspection and industrial radiography. In 1955, it was decided that two additional methods should be included: ultrasonic testing and penetrant methods of inspection.
