Once again I owe thanks to an old friend for a conversation which sparked a train of thought. Attending the press introduction of a new car, he was subjected to a presentation about quality, and the systems through which it was going to be consistently achieved (this time). It was, complained my friend, much the same presentation he had sat through perhaps 50 times, from any of 20 vehicle manufacturers over the last couple of decades. And he is right, because although I was absent from this particular event, I knew exactly what he meant.
