The wet rebate is a lifeline for small wineries. The immense effort put in by the WFA, the Nationals, small wineries and regional associations should be deeply appreciated by all in the regional industry. Only a government bureaucracy with its head firmly in the clouds of Canberra could have devised the complex methods of tax rebate as has to date been inflicted on the wine industry. The new method will be an immense relief to us small operators. We will no longer need to chase two avenues for the return of our money; we will simply use the BAS statement. This is a major step forward in the battle against the strangling red tape.
