The intention of this monograph is to present a rigorous, theory-based catalogue of sampling algorithms, which permits a direct implementation. There are two main aspects of the book. On the one hand, the integration of sampling into a coherent presentation of theory is admirably achieved by the author. An almost exhaustive list of 46 sampling algorithms are crisply stated and related by outlines, ranging from three lines to one-page descriptions, and this is on less than 200 pages. This compact presentation simultaneously makes obvious the second aspect. The reader must be well educated and ready to educate himself in statistical theory, probability, combinatorial theory, including integer mathematical programming and related areas.
