Today's ground forces are preparing for tomorrow's demanding missions in which strategies must be seamlessly implemented-from open to urban terrain and even through a three-block war scenario and one of the scenarios is defending combat forces from air attacks. As such military forces, particularly in the Southeast Asian region has been steadily strengthening their air defence by acquiring modern, mobile air defence systems which are a high priority of late. Effective air defence systems are imperative to contain current and future air threats. The current trend is to have the armed forces in the Asia-Pacific region primarily focused on the procurement of European and Russian air defence systems, which comprise missiles, guns, radars, processor units and/or all of the above on mobile platforms. Most modern systems are usually either self-propelled (ie guns or missiles mounted on a truck or tracked chassis) or easily towed. In general, a fixed system can be identified, attacked and destroyed whereas a mobile system can show up in places where it is not expected. Therefore, these systems such as transporters/erector/launchers, radars, command posts and others benefit from being mounted on a fleet of vehicles. Today, various mobile air defence systems ranging from short to medium range are available in the market to suit the various requirements of the ground forces.
