1. Australia-China trade tensions are accelerating the need for Australian winemakers to diversify their trade markets and so reducetheir exposure to China. Hurdles to Australian exports to China have been emerging throughout 2020 and in December 2020Chinese officials announced that they would impose import tariffs, ranging from 107% to 212%, on all Australian wine.2. This follows on from reports that Chinese trade officials had ordered that the purchasing of Australian wines, along with six otherproduct categories, were to be barred at the border. Seeking to ramp up or enter new markets with their wine will also enableAustralian wineries to gain access to markets offering growth in consumer demand for wine.
