While modern architecture has spread widely across the world through the pursuit of "universality", the fact that architecture is something that is constructed in a specific place has not changed. This section focuses on vernacular elements rooted in a localism that modernism has abandoned, presenting what architects have tried to reincorporate into their work, and how they have done it.
