Honeysuckle Master Plan and Public Domain Strategy

In 1993 the department of planning approved the Honeysuckle master plan for the redevelopment of surplus rail- and port-related land along Newcastle's harbour foreshore. That document acknowledged the essential importance of public space to the success of the master plan and was followed in 2000 by the Honeysuckle Public Domain Strategy, developed by Pittendrigh Shinkfield and Bruce in consultation with the Hunter Development Corporation (HDC), Newcastle City Council and major stakeholders. Although the master plan is not strictly a millennium project, it is impossible to review the public domain strategy without making reference to its parent document.
