"Flexible," "adaptable," "agile," "reconfigurable," "multimodal": these words are all now common in the lexicon of learning spaces and educational facility design. Married to these ideas are teaching and learning concepts such as "learner-centred," "personalized," "enquiry-based," "technology-enabled" and "collaborative." Certainly we have come a long way since the birth of mass education during the Industrial Revolution, when didactic instruction was a given. Learning spaces and practice are now driven by Knowledge Era theories and supported by the ubiquitous rise of digital technologies.
