Winding Shop of the PF1 Coil Double Pancakes

The Poloidal Field (PF) coils are one from four main sub-systems of the ITER magnet. The PF1 coil—a cylindrical ring coil with external diameter $sim$9 m, height $sim$1 m and weight $sim$ 200 ton—is supposed to be manufactured by Russian Federation (RF). The ring coil is composed as a stack of eight double pancakes (DP). Each DP is wound with “two-in-hand” conductors and consists of upper and lower pancakes. The paper presents the manufacturing installation for the turn insulation application and winding of the DPs. Key features of the complex are: the manufacturing installation can be completely dismounted and assembled again a new within 1 month;
