The writing is a Preface to a Special Issue of Applied Clay Science - Clay Minerals Research in China. The motivation for editing the Special Issue was originated from The Workshop on Green Chemical Technology for Clay Minerals-derived Functional Materials and Catalysts, held on October 22-23, 2014, in Hangzhou, and hosted by Research Group for Advanced Materials & Sustainable Catalysis (AMSC), Institute of Advanced Catalytic Materials, College of Chemical Engineering, Zhejiang University of Technology. Brief information on the workshop and the benefits of the Special Issue are introduced.
