Vitamins are essential to human health, and dietarynsupplements containing vitamins are widely used bynindividuals hoping to ensure they have adequate intakenof these important nutrients. Measurement of vitamins innnutritional formulations is necessary to monitor regulatoryncompliance and in studies examining the nutrient intakenof specific populations. Liquid chromatographic methods,nprimarily with UV absorbance detection, are well estab-nlished for both fat- and water-soluble measurements, butnthey do have limitations for certain analytes and maynsuffer from a lack of specificity in complex matrices.nLiquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC MS)nprovides both sensitivity and specificity for the determi-nnation of vitamins in these matrices, and simultaneousnanalysis of multiple vitamins in a single analysis is oftennpossible. In this work, LC MS methods were developednfor both fat- and water-soluble vitamins and applied to thenmeasurement of these analytes in two NIST StandardnReference Materials. When possible, stable isotope la-nbeled internal standards were employed for quantification.
