ISBS Symposium a Success

The First International Symposium on Biopharmaceutical Statistics-the first symposium of the International Society for Biopharmaceutical Statistics (ISBS)-was held in Shanghai, China, from June 30-July 2, 2008. The ISBS is a nonprofit organization established in February 2007 to provide an international platform for statisticians worldwide to share information, experiences, research findings, and challenges and improve and promote global harmonization of statistical practice in the biopharmaceutical industry. The symposium included three plenary sessions, 52 invited parallel sessions, 11 contributed parallel sessions, and one poster session, with a total of 284 presentations covering statistical theory and applications in biopharmaceutical discovery, development, and regulations. There also were seven pre-symposium short courses taught by prominent experts. The symposium opened with welcome remarks by Yonghao Gui, vice president of Fudan University, the symposium's local host.
