It's time for the holidays, and for pastry chefs and bakers everywhere, that means it is time to break out the marzipan. Some call it Maaaahhhhzipaaaaan. I just call it delicious.rnFor me, the daughter of two Northern European immigrants, it just isn't Christmas without indulging in creatures made out of this wonderful stuff. Modeling figures with marzipan is delightfully easy, children excel at them and it can become a wonderful tradition for the whole family.rnIt is my theory that you can model anything if you can master three basic shapes: the ball, the carrot, and the sausage. To make a ball, take a piece of marzipan and roll it between your palms. If you end up with creases, roll again while applying more pressure, then ease up.
