Out of the lounge and into the mosh-pit: Are these the last days for Business Class travel?

Sitting in seat 26C on the Sydney-Auckland flight, I'm surrounded by suited men unused to the cramped conditions, staring wistfully through the blue curtain at the spacious and mostly empty seats ahead. As I open my laptop, I bump elbows with my neighbour, whose bored eyes wander over to my screen. When the meal arrives, I perch my computer between my legs and attempt to pry the sorry-looking food out of the plastic trays, spilling rice over my trousers. Eighteen months ago, I would have been sipping champagne up in 2A barely within throwing distance of another soul.
