UAVs for Ethiopia

The Ethiopian army has ordered unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) from BlueBird Aero Systems, which has also been contracted to establish maintenance facilities for the aircraft. Few details have been released about the contract and it is not clear exactly how many aircraft are being bought. It is believed that the deal involves the Boomerang man-portable fuel cell powered UAV and SpyLite lightweight UAV. African countries are increasingly turning to Israel for UAVs to monitor borders and infrastructure. In February Uganda's army purchased two Orbiter 2 UAVs from Aeronautics Defence Systems, and Angola is negotiating with Israel Aerospace Industries for Heron UAVs.
