The Cyprus-based Energean Oil & Gashas announced it would like to buy Edisonfrom the French power giant EDF. However,one of Edison’s assets, its participation inthe Algerian Reggane Nord field, couldprove to be a burden to the Cypriot firm.Energean has several Israeli shareholders.The group’s largest assets, Karish and Tanin(2.4 tcf), are located in Israeli offshore.Energean is listed on the Tel Aviv stockexchange and some of the private equityfirms that hold shares in the firm, the likesof Leumi Partners, are also based in Israel.The board of directors is made up of severalIsraeli, such as the former director generalof the ministry of finance and formerEconomic Affairs attaché at the IsraelEmbassy in Washington, Ohad Marani.
