At rantoul, illinois, a financial crisis which threatened imminent closure of the Chanute Air Museum has eased sufficiently to permit planning for the museum's long-term future.rnAdministrative changes are currently being made at the museum, which houses the largest aircraft collection in Illinois. The problems were brought about by low attendance figures during the museum's August 2007 airshow, caused by 100°F+ temperatures. The loss of an expected $35,000 state grant for marketing and advertising hasrnexacerbated the financial crisis.rnThe museum's financial reserves have been severely depleted during the winter months, but in mid-March a spokesman commented, "Contributions from our members and local citizens have given us breathing space as we head into the summer season, and the situation is continually improving".rnAmong the 40 airframes on show at the museum are some real rarities, including a Convair B-58 Hustler, the second prototype Boeing B-47 Stratojet, above, and a North American P-51 H.
