When the last regular civil Packet flights wound up around the mid-1980s, it was the completion of a 40-year career for the type in military and civilian hands. In that time, 85 airframes were written off - some 39 per cent of the 220 C-82As built. The single engine-out scenario plagued the C-82 for its whole life.
