To transport people, equipment, services and supplies to and from the International Space Station, private space outposts, orbiting telescopes, flying science instruments and, someday, space cities, a launch system far more economical and safer than the space shuttle is required. But while NASA has gone "back to the future" with the Constellation program and its plans to return to the Moon and go on to Mars, there may be some room to revisit a fixed-wing concept as well.
