Over the last few years, America's space programs have been faced with very challenging times. The space shuttle's retirement, a new National Space Policy and National Security Space Strategy, and budget cuts to NASA and commercial crew and cargo development have left an unsettled feeling among the space community as to what direction space exploration and development will take in the near and not-too-distant future.
