Who do you think can do the most press-ups? Bryce or Oliver? Times were tough in the office, a combination of the dreariness of the audit and gloomy weather meant morale was low. Looking around, the team seemed to be working happily, so like all successful managers I had ever previously worked for, I set about disrupting the team with a pointless discussion. Neither Bryce nor Oliver, both of whom existed in the hinterland between finance and IT, wanted a press-up battle to the death but they were well-enough matched to provoke a lively debate. Bryce had the customary athleticism of an early twenties Australian male while Oliver had the benefit of public school officer training.
