Perlin and Cucolo’s is a call to arms about the way in which many legal systems are responding to the challenge of protecting the community from sexually violent predators. The authors are well placed to write the book. Perlin is Professor Emeritus of Law at New York Law School where he was Founding Director of the International Mental Disability Reform Project and is Co-founder of Mental Disability Law and Policy Associates. Cucolo is Adjunct Professor of Law at New York Law School and Emory Law School, as well as the Co-founder of Mental Disability Law and Policy Associates. Both are members of the Board of Trustees of the International Society for Therapeutic Jurisprudence and each has a practical background as an advocate for defendants with mental illnesses and personality disorders.
