Inhibition of vascular smooth muscle cell calcification by ATP analogues

Expression of P2 receptors by calcifying VSMCs. Calcifying VSMCs express mRNA for all P2X receptors and some of the P2Y receptors. Results are shown as mRNA expression relative to P2Y receptor expression (dotted line). Data are presented as box and whisker plots (min-to-max values,  = 5 RNA sets, *  p b Western blot analysis shows that calcifying VSMC expression protein for the P2X3, P2X4, P2X5 and P2X7 receptors and protein for the P2X1, P2X2 and P2X6 receptors were not detected. The positive control (+ve) was protein isolated from mature osteoblasts
