文化差异视阈下中英文习语翻译方法探析

摘要

Idiom is the concentrated reflection of cultural characteristics of a country or nation. After thousands of years’ refine-ment,idioms present colorful cultural forms and images,often having literal meaning and practical significance. Because of different religious belief,living environment,and cultural mentality,the cultural connotations of English and Chinese idioms are often of great differences. Therefore,idioms should be translated according to their specific situations,resorting to literal translation,omission, structure-borrowing,free translation,literal translation combined with paraphrasing,combination of literal and free translation or other methods.%习语是一个国家或民族文化特征的集中反映。经过千百年的锤炼，习语呈现出多姿多彩的形式和文化意象，通常有字面意义和实际意义两层含义。英汉习语的文化内涵差异较大，它们源于不同的宗教信仰、地理环境、文化心理等，翻译时要灵活使用不同方法，如直译、略译、套译、意译、直译意译兼用或直译加注等方法。
