英语世界晚清小说研究成果丰富，其共同特征在于将晚清小说研究纳入现代性的范畴重新加以梳理和讨论，切入点多，视角丰富，从不同方面揭示出中国近代小说中的丰富的文化内蕴，并且最终都指向了小说所投射的中国近代社会现代性的生成问题，这一特征在王德威、韩南、叶凯蒂、司马懿、胡缨的著作中表现得尤为明显。%In English-speaking world, late Qing fiction research has yielded fruitful results, and their common feature is to bring the late Qing fiction research into modernity category. They reveal rich cultural connotation of modern Chinese novels from different aspects and eventually direct to the issue of generation of Chinese modernity projected by the novels, which is particularly evident in the works of David Der-wei Wang,Patrick Hanan,Catherine Yeh, Sima Yi and Hu Yin.
