英译汉中的定语肿胀现象研究

摘要

英译汉时，如果译者不顾英汉语定语的区别，把英语中的定语都翻译成汉语的定语，往往会造成定语肿胀。本文以“基础英语”课程中学生的翻译练习为例，分析造成定语肿胀的原因和解决方法。一般来说，定语肿胀往往是由英语中的后置定语，或者前置和后置定语共同出现造成的，有时是由一个后置定语造成的，有时是由多个后置定语造成的。要消除定语肿胀，就要采取分译的方法，把英语中的定语分译成定语之外的其他句子成分，或者把部分定语翻译成句子。%Attributive plague which is one of the forms of trans-lationese often arises if the difference between English and Chinese attributives is not taken into consideration and all English attributives are translated into Chinese ones. The paper attempts to analyze the detailed factors that cause attributive plague and discuss the strategies to get rid of attributive plague, taking students' translation exercises in"Integrate English Course"as examples. It is found that attributive plague is often caused by post-attributives or the combination of pre-attributives and post-attributives. Separation can be employed to get rid of at-tributive plague. Some English attributives can be translated in-to other elements of sentences or even a sentence.
