斯蒂芬·克莱恩是美国早期极富有天赋的自然主义作家，他的第一部小说《街头女郎梅季》显示了其自然主义创作思想，是美国文学史上第一部自然主义作品。本文正是从自然主义的角度出发，对小说中人物的生存环境及遗传等因素作客观细致的描写，揭示出人的品性和命运最终只能由两种因素决定，即环境和遗传因素。%Stephen Crane is an early American naturalist writer with rich talent. His first novel"Maggie, A Girl of the Street", also the first naturalist masterpiece in the history of American litera-ture, shows his thought of naturalist creation. Starting from the perspective of naturalism, this paper objectively analyzes the liv-ing environment and genetic factors of characters in the novel, and reveals that a person's moral conduct and destiny are only determined by environmental and genetic factors.
