Point of view",which is a literary term, has been a long-discussed theme in narratology. There already exist a large number of discussions of the personal pronoun in narratology. The first-person and third-person narration are attached more importance by narratologists while the second-person narration remains under-explored.Using the framework which lies on Schofield’s theory of second-person narrative, this article aims to explore the second person narration and its effects by analyzing the preceding chapters of Soul Mountain written by Gao Xingjian where apostrophe of"you"occurs throughout the book. The second-person narration, viewed as a special narrative mode, has expressive and infectious power. In Soul Mountain, the inner world of different characters is revealed through the second-person narration. With the development of the plot, the specific referent of the second person becomes increasingly intriguing and clear, which uncovers"you"are the self-address of the author."You","I"and"he"are alter egos of the same persona.
