As the representative figure of Metaphysical Poetry, John Donne’s poetry is characterized by unconventional forms, pe⁃culiar images, and abundant conceits. Though John Donne’s poems were ignored in his time, yet they have catered for the taste of modern writers and readers. This paper aims to study John Donne’s poetry in terms of Victor Shklovsky’s theory of defamiliariza⁃tion, hoping to enrich the discussions of John Donne.
