《他们眼望上苍》作为赫斯顿一生中创作的最重要的一部小说，是黑人文学中的第一部展示黑人女子内心女性意识觉醒的作品。通过浅析女主人公珍妮的四个人生阶段：未婚时珍妮与奶奶南妮的相伴以及她的三段婚姻经历。在这一过程中她的不断的寻找自我，探索自我，突破传统的黑人女性意识，成长为有独立的思想意识，实现灵与肉的自由，实现真正意义的独立。%Their Eyes were Watching God was the most important novel of Hurston,it is the first novel that tells the consciousness of black female. Through brief analyzing the four parts of Jane’s life:Jane kept company with Nanny while she was a girl and three times’marriage. In this process,through exploring and finding self-realization, Jane challenged the traditional consciousness of black female and finally became a woman who had independent consciousness,in the end, she realized true independence from physical state to mental condition.
