多模态，在现代社会中，已成为了一个越来越普遍的现象，越来越多的语篇运用多种模态来表达意义。杂志封面也是一种涉及图像和文字的多模态语篇。封面上的图像和文字共同实现着封面的功能，如传递主题信息和吸引读者。同时，一本杂志的办刊风格和办刊宗旨在一个好的封面中也应该能够得到体现。因此，封面对一本杂志来说，有着十分重要的作用。该研究以《南方人物周刊》的封面为分析对象，旨在发现图像和文字是如何通过合作来传递信息和吸引读者的。同时，也关注了封面上的图像和文字是怎样体现该杂志的办刊宗旨和办刊风格的。为了便于分析，该研究将语料分为了三类，然后基于“视觉语法”和“模际互补理论”，对社会人物类的语料进行描述性的定性分析。通过分析发现，封面上的图像和文字之间存有互补关系；同时，图像和文字两者合作地体现着杂志“平等，宽容，人性”的办刊宗旨。%Multimodality, or multimodal discourse, is very common in the modern society. There are more and more discourses in which more than one mode is used . The cover of magazine, which usually involves images and language, is a form of multimodal discourse. The images, or pictures, and language on the cover work together to inform readers of the main information and to at⁃tract their attention. Meanwhile, a good cover is supposed to be able to manifest the publishing style and publishing principles of the magazine. Thus, it is no exaggerating to state that the cover is of great significance to a magazine. The present research, using multimodal covers of the Nanfang People Weekly as data, aims at finding out how images and language on covers work together to express meaning. At the same time, the research pays attention to how the publishing principles get manifested through the images and language. The research, based on the theories of Visual Grammar and Intersemiotic Complementarity, makes a descriptive analysis of the data of the social people category. It is found out that an intersemiotic complementarity exists between the image and language on the cover and the two modes work cooperatively to manifest the publishing principles of“equality, tolerance and humanity”.
