Both ESL (Eglish as the Second Language) teachers and students in China are facing a dilemma. On one hand, they wish to master a standard norm in English acquisition so as to get accepted by the mainstream English domains. On the other hand, they wish to fight against the lingual colonialism to safeguard a vernacular identity and multiculturalism so as to be better prepared for the globalized discourses. This article aims to suggest a pedagogical strategy called transposition, a term raised by Canagarajah(1997)by abandoning a radical hostility and a docile accommodation to the mainstream literacy.
