The theory of"thick translation", put forward by American scholar Kwame Anthony Appiah, suggests understanding and translating source text with the help of its rich cultural and linguistic context. The notion boasts a significant role in the trans-lation of ancient Chinese classics which is the embodiment and condensation of traditional Chinese philosophical principles, such as Taoism, Confucianism. This paper mainly looks into the translation of culture-loaded words in Casual Expressions of Idle Feel-ing from the perspective of"thick translation"and wishes to contribute to the strategies of translating culture-loaded words in an-cient Chinese classics.
