Objective To investigate the effects of pyridoxine on rat testis in vitro. Method an in vitro system of Sertoli germ cell co culture was applied, the toxic effects of pyridoxine at different concentrations an exposed duration were observed. Results The detachment of germ cells from sertoli cells showed marked dose response and time response relationships with the exposure of pyridoxine. Meanwhile, the characteristic of loosing and ratracting skeleton in the Sertoli cells was found. Conclusions The effects induced by pyridoxine in vitro may reflect damage to Sertoli cells, and testicular cells co culture could be of value for the study of underlying mechanisms of toxic effects of pyridoxine on rat testis.
