Rendering ancient Chinese into the modern vernacular has been opposed when it began to rise from the early twentieth century. Although many modern-language versions have been published in nearly a hundred years, few of them are satisfactory. Especially in the past twenty to thirty years, the production of modern-language versions have rushed into mass action, hence it is hard to ensure their quatity. Some of the presumed functions of vernacular translation are unjustifiable, the others are not that effective. It is true that vernacular translating is useful, but we should be clear that it is mainly for the translator himself, not for others to read. In the light of the present situation, publishing one's vernacular translation is not so proper.%从上世纪早期初兴时起,古文今译就不乏反对者。
