It is found that both complexes can effectively catalyze the polymerization of ε-caprolactone and that the molecular weight distribution is about 1.40. Under the same polymerization conditions Ce(BH4)3 displays better catalytic activity than (Gua)Ce(BH4)2 does. At 0 ℃ the polymerization catalyzed by Ce(BH4)3 is controllable. The catalytic activity increases while the temperature is raised, but the molecular weight decreases.
