George Gissing is one of the most important novelists in the late-Victorian period. In his 23 novels he has invented many female characters. His masterpiece, New Grub Street, depicts three kinds of female images, which mirror wowen’s status at that time and reflect the author’s female consciousness.%乔治·吉辛是维多利亚时期一位重要的小说家，他的23部小说作品中创造了很多的女性形象，而其代表作《新格拉布街》中通过塑造三种类型的女性形象，反映了维多利亚时期妇女的地位以及作者超前的女性意识。
