This paper traces the etymologic evolution of “pottery” in the historical process of Chinese ceramic art. By restoring to the origin the facts recorded in archeological literature, it explores the etymological meanings of "pottery" in art history and its implications for future development of the art.%围绕20世纪以来“陶艺”词源在中国陶瓷艺术界流变的历程，在还原史实文献的基础上，探讨“陶艺”词源对于艺术史本身的意义及其对未来陶瓷艺术发展的启示。
