<正> 1.The Infant Period of Chinese OphthalmologyChinese medicine has a long history and there are agreat number of historical records about the ancientChinese people struggling against diseases.Some ofthe records were found in our oldest writingsdiscovered in modern times.For instance.not a fewdiseases were mentioned in the prayers and divinewords of the royal families which were engraved onthe tortoise shells or bones dug out of the ruins of theYin Dynasty(殷朝)in Anyang(安阳),Henan Province-the remnants of Wu-Ding Period(武丁)(1324-1266B.C.)The record of the eye diseases is the earliestrecord of ophthalmology in our country.In ‘TheHill and Sea Classic’(山海经),an old book written inQin Dynasty(秦朝),more than 100 drugs werementioned,of which 7 were related to eye diseases.Besides‘The Hill and Sea Classic’in the books of‘The Book of History’(书经),‘The Book of Songs’(诗经)and‘The Poetry of Chu’(楚辞),there wererecords of the drugs used by our ancestors.
