Totally 152 healthy replacement heifers under two different types of cowshed, including 61 heifers raised in simple outdoor shelter (group L) and 91 heifers raised in fully enclosed barn (group F), were selected and tracked measurement of body height, body length and chest girth to the age at ifrst breeding in Hohhot area to study the effects of different types of cowshed on the development of replacement heifers and to provide a scientiifc basis for production management. Two groups of test heifers’ raising management, diet composition, epidemic prevention and standard of ifrst breeding were consistent, except the type of cowshed. The body height, chest girth and body length of group L and F at the beginning have no significant difference (P>0.05). At the end of test, the corresponding index were 126.26 and 128.53 cm (P<0.01), 173.24 and 175.50 cm (0.1>P>0.05), 142.63 and 144.34 cm (P<0.01), respectively. The cumulative growth during the whole test of corresponding index of group F were 1.72cm(P<0.05), 5.34cm (P<0.01) and 2.10 cm (0.1>P>0.05) higher than group L, respectively. In summary, fully enclosed barn have positive effects on replacement heifers before the age at ifrst breeding.%选择呼和浩特地区不同类型牛舍下饲养的健康后备母牛152头，其中露天简易牛舍61头（L组），全封闭式牛舍91头（F组），跟踪测量体高、体斜长和胸围到初配月龄，探讨了不同牛舍对后备母牛生长发育的影响。两组试验牛只除牛舍类型不同外，饲养管理、日粮组成、疫病防治及初配标准等均一致。试验开始时L和F组平均体高、胸围、体斜长差异均不显著（P>0.05）；试验结束时相应指标分别为126.26cm和128.53cm（P<0.01）、173.24cm和175.50cm（0.1>P>0.05）、142.63cm和144.34cm（P<0.01）；整个试验期间F组相应指标累积生长量分别比L组高1.72cm（P<0.05）、5.34cm（P<0.01）和2.10cm（0.1>P>0.05）。从结果得出：在寒冷地区，封闭式牛舍较简易开放式牛舍对初配前中国荷斯坦后备母牛的发育具有积极的影响。
