Bare earth(Ⅲ) chlorides(RE=Nd,Gd,Yb) react with sodium 2,3 Dichloroisobutanoic aoid to form 2,3 dichloroisobutanates which react with 1,10 phenanthroline in 1,4 dioxane to form a class of new solid complexes of rare earths. They were inverstigated by elemental analysis, molar conductance,IR spectra,uv absorption spectra and DTA TG technique. The new complexes have the composition of [RE(phen) 2I 3·H 2O]carboxyl group of 2,3 Dichloroisobutyric acid and nitrogen atoms of 1,10 phenanthroline. The molar conductance data show that these complexes are characterized as neutral compounds with 10 coordinates.Ther solubilities in various solvents have been determined.
