The purpose of this study was to develop an instructional system to fulfull the goals of the C-361 Ceramic Design course. This instructional system was field-tested prior to its possible implementation at all Teachers' Colleges in Thailand offering Ceramic Programs in their Industrial Arts curricula.;To determine the effectiveness of the instructional system, achievement test results were analyzed in the form of means and t-tests, and they indicated high levels of student progressive achievement. To determine whether the system was acceptable, attitudinal responses were analyzed in the form of means and standard deviations, and they indicated a high positive student response. In conclusion the new C-361 Ceramic Design instructional system, consisting of ten weekly units (two slide series and eight transparency series), was considered both highly effective and acceptable to respondents in this project.;Needs assessment questionnaires were formulated based on the information obtained from the study of the C-361 Ceramic Design curriculum and interviews with three ceramic design educators. Then a needs assessment was conducted with 50 respondents (faculty and students), and its results were analyzed and used as a basis to prepare a plan for the development of the instructional system. An advisory group was formed, consisting of four Thai educators, to aid in the development of the system. The C-361 Ceramic Design curriculum and instructional strategies were refined. Ten instructional units with accompanying guidelines and scripts, ten achievement tests, and ten attitudinal questionnaires were developed, tried out, and revised. Finally, the field testing of the instructional system was conducted over a period of one semester with a ceramic design instructor and 25 third-year ceramic students of the Industrial Arts Department at the Phranakorn Teachers' College, Bangkok, Thailand.
