摘要

An increasing amount of literature provides statistics that describe how we humans have created an ecological crisis through our actions toward nature. Because research has shown that teachers transmit unexamined cultural norms to students that perpetuate this crisis, advocates have been calling for environmental education that will solve human---caused ecological problems. This qualitative study, conducted at one junior high school, examines how schools perpetuate an ecologically damaging Western cultural worldview, and considers alternative pedagogies to counter that worldview. In particular, it examines the extent of environmental education practiced by the school's only life science teacher. Finally, it looks at student and teacher attitudes on the integration of environmental education into the core content areas.
