摘要

Research has demonstrated a need to review all contextual variables influencing behaviors pertinent to devising strategies in clinical supervision. This can help both the supervisor and supervisee clarify social dynamics which can promote, or adversely affect, the process of clinical supervision. The Supervision Relationship Survey-Revised (SRS-R) designed by Breaux (2000) can be used to examine theoretical constructs and developmental aspects of social dynamics involved with interpersonal reciprocity. It does this by presenting a measure of power perception from both parties involved in the clinical supervision process, while carefully incorporating the concept of change over time and establishing a measurable link between theory and practice in clinical supervisory research. Given further research, the SRS will provide empirical data useful in constructing personalized developmental models for clinical supervision, offering greater empirical scrutiny than has previously been established. For example, it will quantify outcome measures of social influence factors through power dynamics basic to the clinical supervisory process. These dynamics affect processes that parallel the client-counselor relationship, as well as those that expand the role of personal-cultural orientations within clinical supervision as these roles apply to culturally diverse populations and their practical implications to interpersonal effectiveness. The importance of this instrument rests with its impact on quantifying outcome measures for other areas as well. Its potential to be used as a standard to generate the development of instruments that can be used to address other areas of education, such as supervision in student teaching and professor-student dynamics, will allow unlimited opportunities for further research, offering information on the types and sources of classroom power essential to effective teaching.
