摘要

The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of classroom size reduction (CSR) at West Ocean Elementary. Second, 3rd , and 4th grade students for the years 2000 through 2002 participated in this study. Findings were based on reading and math scores from the Stanford Achievement Test, 9th Edition.; Class size reduction appears to be a viable solution for California's academically deficient students. STAR and SAGE's results demonstrated consistent benefits for small classes. However, the data at West Ocean Elementary suggest that class size reduction has not benefited the students to the degree expected.; The students at West Ocean Elementary are not academically improving enough to say that CSR is making a difference. Student progress in reading and math overall within a 3 year period was minimal. The majority of the students remained at a steady 50th percentile score.
