Parents' perceptions of speech and language therapy services offered through the early intervention program in New Jersey.

This study was performed to determine parents' and caregivers' level of satisfaction with the speech and/or language services provided through the early intervention (EI) program in New Jersey, and to assess the programs' success with implementing a family orientated approach as mandated by P.L. 99-457. A survey was distributed to parents and caregivers found on Yahoo! message boards via an online web service (www.surveymonkey.com). Survey questions were designed to measure satisfaction with speech and/or language therapy services and aspects of the overall early intervention system in NJ. The majority of parents and caregivers reported satisfaction with the speech and/or language services their child received through the early intervention system and with the family orientated approach of early intervention, including with the Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) development process.
