摘要

This project consists of a critical review of existing literature. Individuals with Asperger's Syndrome suffer from difficulties in social interactions and communication. Due to these social deficits, many aspects of dating and relationships that most individuals take for granted are intrinsically more difficult for individuals with Asperger's Syndrome. It is important for mental health professionals to recognize why many popular couples therapy techniques are not effective when working with this population. The therapist must consider the concrete and logical way individuals with Asperger's Syndrome think, and must quantify more abstract concepts in couple's therapy. The partners may feel as if they are speaking two different languages, and it becomes the therapist's job to act as a translator for the couple, as well as provide psychoeducation for both partners.
